We are absolutely delighted to celebrate another fantastic set of IDTA examination results at Kirkham Henry!

Our students have once again demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment and passion across Ballet, Tap and Musical Theatre examinations, achieving outstanding results. We are especially proud that the majority of marks were awarded at Honours/ Distinction level – a true reflection of the hard work our students strive for every day.

Special mention must go to Sophie who gained 94 marks for her final ballet medal award. To Shonee who gained 90 marks in her Gold Bar one Ballet and to Steph for achieving 93 marks in her Advanced two final ballet exam.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful Apprentice Teaching Assistants and volunteers for all the time, energy and enthusiasm they give to Kirkham Henry.

These young people are the future of our organisation and we are incredibly grateful for their commitment to supporting classes, helping younger students, assisting at events and being such positive role models within our dance family.

Some of our apprentices were recently presented with their Volunteer Thank You Certificates, alongside their Safeguarding Training Certificates for Student Helpers. This is an important step in their development and demonstrates their dedication to creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for everyone.

We are so proud of each and every one of them. Their willingness to learn, grow and give back to the Kirkham Henry community is truly inspiring.

💙 Remembering the Northern Stage Dance Festival 💙

For over 40 years, Kirkham Henry was proud to take part in the Northern Stage Dance Festival. It was so much more than a competition—it was a celebration of dance, friendship, encouragement, and community.

Generations of our dancers stepped onto that stage, gaining confidence, creating lifelong memories, and sharing wonderful experiences with dance schools from across the region. From the excitement backstage to the thrill of performing under the lights, the festival became a cherished part of our calendar year after year.

Sadly, following the challenges of Covid, the festival closed its doors for the final time. While it is greatly missed, it can never take away the countless happy memories, achievements, friendships, laughter, and special moments that were created over four decades.

Thank you for the memories. They will always remain part of the Kirkham Henry story. ✨

Huge thanks to Evie, Kacey-Leigh and Bel for their volunteering as apprentice teaching assistants. What has been a fantastic volunteer week we are so proud of our young volunteers and all they do.

We are also incredibly proud to have received our certificate from North Yorkshire Youth.

This recognition reflects the dedication, hard work and enthusiasm of our amazing young people, volunteers, staff and supporters who make everything we do possible.

As a registered charity, we are passionate about providing opportunities for children and young people to develop confidence, creativity, life skills and friendships through the performing arts. Receiving this certificate is a wonderful acknowledgement of the positive impact that youth organisations can have within our community.

Thank you to North Yorkshire Youth for their continued support and encouragement. We look forward to building on this achievement and continuing to provide opportunities that inspire, educate and empower young people.

Another exciting adventure for former KH pupil Leo, who is back in Miami rehearsing for his latest contract with Princess Cruises. 🚢✨

Having already enjoyed several successful cruise ship contracts, it's wonderful to see Leo continuing to build such an impressive career in the industry.

With fellow KH alumni Charlie ( home waiting for his next contract) and Lincoln also performing and travelling around the world, we can't help but wonder who will bump into each other first while rehearsing, performing, or cruising the oceans!

We are incredibly proud of these talented young men and all they have achieved. They are fantastic ambassadors for KH and an inspiration to our current pupils.

We are incredibly proud that dancers who attend using wheelchairs and mobility scooters are already a valued and much-loved part of our community. Their enthusiasm, talent and determination enrich our classes every single week, and we are committed to ensuring they can continue to thrive alongside their peers.

As our charity grows, so does our ambition. We are actively seeking funding to make our building fully accessible, creating an environment where every individual can participate with dignity, independence and confidence.

Accessibility is not simply about ramps and facilities; it is about opportunity, inclusion and belonging. We know the difference the arts can make to wellbeing, confidence and social connection, and we want to ensure those opportunities are available to everyone.

Some of Miss Evie’s Jazz and Commercial students joined her for a special photograph today as we presented her with a wedding gift from everyone at Kirkham Henry.

Pupils, parents and staff kindly contributed towards a wedding present, and together we were delighted to gift Miss Evie and Will a £200 John Lewis voucher, mutually agreed between Miss Angela and Evie.

This generous collection is a true testament to just how much Miss Evie is loved and appreciated by her pupils and their families. Her dedication, kindness and passion for teaching have touched so many lives, and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate this exciting new chapter with her.

Sunday evening smiles-One of the loveliest things about Kirkham Henry is seeing the friendships that continue long after students leave our doors.

This weekend I had the pleasure of spending time with a remarkable group of Kirkham Henry alumni at the engagement party of my niece, Saskia, Miss Ali’s daughter) to her fiancé Jordan. It was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, memories and celebration.

What struck me most was the strength of the friendships within this group. Through life's ups and downs, they have remained loyal, supportive and always there for one another. Watching them together was a reminder that performing Arts is about so much more than learning the art – it creates lifelong bonds and a sense of family that lasts for years.

To see former pupils still sharing such a special friendship makes me incredibly proud. Congratulations to Saskia and Jordan on your engagement, and thank you for a truly wonderful evening spent with such a special group of young people. Miss Angela #KHalumni

Helen and Hannah are stepping down from their roles at the end of our summer term as Trustees of Kirkham Henry following the successful transition and merger of Friends of KH and KH CIC into our new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to both Helen and Hannah for their time, commitment, support and valuable contributions throughout this important period in Kirkham Henry's history and their expertise in all their voluntary work for Friends over the years. Their dedication has helped guide the organisation through a significant change, ensuring a strong foundation for the future of both our school and community dance hub.

As we thank Helen and Hannah for their service, we are now actively seeking new Trustees to join us from September and help shape the next exciting chapter of Kirkham Henry's journey.

The Charity Commission states that trustees should "give enough time, thought and energy" to their role and actively participate in helping the charity fulfil its objectives.”

We would particularly welcome applications from people who have an interest in the performing arts or who share our commitment to accessibility, inclusivity and community engagement.

Kirkham Henry is both a thriving performing arts school and a Community Dance Hub, providing opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to experience the joy and benefits of performing arts. We are proud to welcome participants with a wide range of needs and abilities and continue to strive towards making our facilities and programmes as accessible as possible for everyone.

Since performing in our last Showcase, Maria has been training at CAPA College, where she has continued to develop her talent, dedication and passion for the performing arts. We are absolutely delighted that she has now accepted a place on the Foundation Course at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona.

Maria has shown incredible determination, resilience and commitment throughout the past two years and we are so proud of everything she has achieved. Her positive attitude and hard work continue to inspire those around her.

We’re proud to inform you all that former pupil Maddie who is now studying at Elmhurst took part in a wonderful celebration at Birmingham Hippodrome recently.

Birmingham Royal Ballet: Sir Peter Wright Centenary - Before the Birmingham Royal Ballet danced, the audience enjoyed a Défilé of the students from Elmhurst School of Ballet, performed to Tchaikovsky’s Polonaise from Eugene Onegin in a choreographed mass procession by Misha Tchoupakov, followed by a speech and a poem from the company director Carlos Acosta.

This week back in 2012, we held our photo call (at The Milton Rooms ) for Showtime at the Grand Opera House, York What incredible memories! ✨

For many years, we were proud to give our pupils the full theatre experience, performing in a professional venue and creating memories that have lasted a lifetime. As the years went on, the logistics and enormous administrative demands meant it was time for a change, so we brought our production back to local venues and introduced a new name – Showcase.

While the venue and name may have changed, one thing never has: the fun, the professionalism, and the dedication of our amazing pupils, teachers, volunteers, and families. We can't wait to create even more unforgettable memories together at this year's Showcase! 💖

Huge thank you to Malton and Norton District Lions Club for the wonderful donation of £600 towards our new music editing computer. We are truly delighted and appreciative, as this will indeed be put into good use on a daily basis.
