ABOUT KIRKHAM HENRY PERFORMING ARTS

About Kirkham Henry

Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre was formed in 1989, when Angela Kirkham and Jennie Henry decided to combine their individual teaching talents. Since then our contribution to the arts, fitness and wellbeing throughout Ryedale and the North Yorkshire area has been immense.

In 2021 our Principal Miss Angela celebrated her 50th Year as a dance teacher...a huge achievement.

Supported by a team of brilliant teaching staff with well over 100 years combined experience, we have gained a reputation for excellence in all aspects of the Performing Arts as well as our Community dance programme.

We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements over the years, not just those that have continued into the performing arts industry, but all those students who, with the discipline and dedication learnt throughout their time at Kirkham Henry, have gone on to excellent careers outside of performing arts.
Jennie Henry 1938-2017. Co founder with Angela Kirkham.

Jennie, retired from teaching singing at Kirkham Henry in 2007, when she taught voice production and music to pupils aged 5 – 75 yrs. Jennie began her musical teaching career at the age of 20.

Her professional engagements included a Sunday Summer Season with Moira Anderson at the Futurist Theatre, Scarborough and musical broadcasts from the BBC Leeds studios.

She had been closely involved for many years with York and Ryedale operatic societies both as a performer and ‘out front’ as chorus mistress and musical director. Extensions of Jennies work have reached as far away as West Africa where her first post as musical director was made in association with the British High Commission in Gambia.

Kirkham Henry is for people from all backgrounds and ability. We believe that inclusivity in the arts has the power to bring communities together and to change lives whether attending to pursue a career in the performing arts industry or for recreational reasons.
